On August 31, 2020, the members of Virginia’s African American History Education Commission presented their final report to the Governor for improving the way African American history is taught in Virginia’s public schools

Makya, a member of the Commission, served as a Parent and HBCU Advocate. She was asked to speak on behalf of Virginia’s parents. Her remarks begin at the 18:30 mark.
